* 2.3.6 is a source-only security fix. Since Win32 and Mac binaries were built using UCS-2 Unicode, they are not susceptible to the problem outlined in PSF-2006-001. The 2.3.5 Win32, docs, and RPM releases are the most current; for MacOS X and MacOS9, 2.3.3 is the most current release. Also, MacOS X Tiger (10.4.x) comes with Python 2.3.5, and MacOS X Panther (10.3.x) comes with an almost complete version of Python 2.3, so all you need are the add-ons, i.e. IDE, etc. It is not recommended to install newer versions of the same release, i.e. 2.3.1+, unless you know how to properly decouple the installed 2.3 (which annoyingly doesn't come with readline compiled in). For the most up-to-date Mac stuff for Python, visit http://undefined.org/python and http://pythonmac.org/packages.
